As a complete diesel-electric solution, OSSA Powerlite® is more than just motors and generators. Our DC Power Distribution Panels represent the ultimate in safety, power control and ease of installation when it comes to routing your power cables.
OSSA Powerlite DC Power Distribution Panels feature: • Capacities from 120 -1,000 vdc and 150 - 2,000 amps. • Electronic and electromechanical circuit protection. • Exclusive GFStm ground fault safety monitoring system. • Single and multiple generator input ports. • High and low power circuits for propulsion motors and accessories. • On-board AC shorepower rectification to the DC buss. • OSSA-CANtm network compatibility. • Thermostatically controlled forced air cooling. • Infinitely expandable circuit quantity using separate sub-panels. • Built-in programmable voltage "spike" dissipation circuit.
A properly designed and outfitted diesel-electric vessel is considerably safer than a conventional yacht. Mechanically enclosed generators protect against the hazards of rotating machinery and potential fire in the engine room while the switch to electricity for cooking and heating eliminates the two major causes of death and injury on boats - explosion and CO asphyxiation. Maximizing these safety benefits requires that the complete power system be correctly designed, properly installed and continuously monitored. Because no standards presently exist for installing diesel-electric propulsion on private pleasurecraft, the OSSA Powerlite system has been designed to meet the international standards established for diesel-electric commercial marine systems. In general, these standards are intended to ensure safety in systems carry far greater voltage and current than would ever been required in pleasurecraft. By using them as the basis for the OSSA Powerlite system we have made customer safety our highest priority. OSSA Powerlite DC Power Distribution Panels are an important part of maximizing safety on every diesel-electric system. Addressing safety concerns in applications that involve both high voltage and high current is commonplace and well-established in both conventional industrial and commercial marine industries. OSSA Powerlite has taken the knowledge gained through years of experience in these industries and used it to create equipment optimized for yachting applications. In some cases, it is simply a matter of using solid copper split-lugs rather than ring terminals or screws in high power connections. In other cases, such as with our exclusive GFStm ground fault safety monitoring system, it gets more sophisticated. In an OSSA Powerlite installation, the DC power buss is completely isolated from the boat hull and all other bonding and electrical circuits. Ensuring that both the positive and negative side of the circuit maintains this isolation is the job of the GFS system. GFS is exclusive to the OSSA Powerlite system and provides 24/7 monitoring of the entire DC power buss. It is user programmable through the OSSA-CAN network and any of the connected touch screen interfaces. In the event that a voltage leak is ever detected, a warning notification is immediately sent to all touch screen displays. (This is broadly similar to the "GFI" circuit breakers commonly used in homes and, increasingly, aboard yachts. However, while both devices improve electrical safety, there are some important differences. To understand more completely how these devices work, see our Technical Library.) OSSA Powerlite Power Distribution Panels are about safety but they are also about simplifying, professionalizing and standardizing your installation. Regardless of how simple or complex your system is, there is a panel that fits your need. Flexible, adaptable, expandable and safe - obviously, part of the OSSA Powerlite system.
